Love

What does God tell us about love?

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.  One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:  “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”  Matthew 22:34-40

God tells us that all the law and all the prophets hang on this.  In other words the whole Bible or Word of God, hangs on love!  Anything that is not loving is not of God or the Bible!

Ok, what else does He tell us?

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?  And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?  Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.  Matthew 5:43-48

Now God is telling us to even love those that hate us and pray for those that persecute us!  God clearly tells us that we are to be loving to everyone!  So, it seems that we should look to see how God Himself defines love.  Not my definition, not certain groups or denominations or any person, but we should seek God Himself!  The creator of all things and giver of all life.  What does He tell us about what love looks like?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  1 Corinthians 13:4-7

For most of us, most of these attributes would not surprise us in a definition of love.  Being kind, caring, not self centered, etc.  Wrapped up inside of this definition, God tells us that love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  Concerning evil, God also tells us;

To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.  Proverbs 8:13

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Romans 12:9

WAIT! WHAT!  Does God tell us that love hates!  How can this be and how does that work!

Going back to God’s description of love and “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth,” what does God tell us about truth?

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1:1-5

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1:14

God tells us that Jesus is the truth and the Word of God that became flesh when He came into this world.  What does God say about His Word – the Bible?

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17

God has created us to know Him, have a personal relationship with Him and be able to spend all of eternity with Him in Heaven.  He created us all to live for eternity after this short life down here on this earth.  There are only 2 places to choose from – Heaven and hell.  In love, God’s biggest concern for us is not our comfort in this short life, but where we will spend our eternity.

… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23

In God’s word, His truth, he tells us that we have all sinned and the wages of sin is death, which is a separation from Him.  If we are separated from Him through eternity, that means we are going to be in hell, not heaven.  There are only 2 choices.  God loves people, but hates sin that destroys peoples lives and separates them from Him.  The good news is that He loved us so much that even though we all have sinned and rebelled against Him, He has given us another chance. A chance to be right with Him and be able to go to heaven through what Jesus did on the cross!

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9

If we truly love and care about someone is it loving to watch them go down a road that leads to hell and not say anything?  Or is that uncaring and possibly self centered because we care more about someone not being offended with us or getting upset with us than we do about where they will spend their eternity?

The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.  Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.  But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’

“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.  When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.  But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.  Ezekiel 33:1-9

There was a young boy who lived on a street where there were cars parked all along both sides of the street up against the curbs.  The street was not constantly busy with cars driving on it, but there was a pretty consistent flow of traffic.  Of course there were the usual fast drivers coming through even though it was a residential area

The boy made up a game that he loved and felt that he was born to do because it was so much fun and gave him so much pleasure.  He would hide between two cars on one side of the road and then dart across the street and hide between two cars on the other side.  He would continually repeat this over and over.

There was a parent who was doing their dishes in the kitchen at one of the houses in front of where this boy was playing his game.  They looked out the window and saw what was going on.  The boy was laughing and just about coming out of his skin he was having so much fun.  This parent also saw the cars that were coming down the street where the drivers had no idea that this child was hiding between the cars and about to run out in the street.  The drivers couldn’t see the boy and the boy couldn’t see the drivers until he was out in the street.

The parent thought, this looks very dangerous, but look at how much fun this child is having!  It looks like he was born to do this because of how much fun he is having, how much pleasure it is bringing him and how much he just seems to love playing that game.

The parent thought, who am I to tell him to stop and that this is dangerous to him.  I would feel unkind, unloving, not giving grace and very judgmental if I were to tell him to stop and that I thought it was not right and dangerous for him to play that game.

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  1 Corinthians 6:9-10

How much do we truly love people?  Do we love them with the worlds definition of a warm and fuzzy, enabling and being a yes person type of love and make it easy and help them to go down a road that leads to destruction?  Or do we love them enough that we are willing to do what may be uncomfortable for us, but be beneficial for them and their eternity?

We cannot have real love without truth and we cannot declare truth without love.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.  Ephesians 4:14-15

The Plank In My Own Eye

In Jesus’ own words, when He was here on earth with us, He taught us;

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.  Matthew 7:3-5

God also teaches us,

At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.

“Again, when a righteous person turns from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.” Ezekiel 3:16-21

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.  But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’   If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.  Matthew 18:15-17

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.  Galatians 6:1

So what do we say, does God’s word contradict itself?  By no means.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16

I believe the world has hijacked some of our Christian terms and redefined them.  Such as grace and love being redefined as tolerance and enabling.  Correcting and evangelizing as being defined as being  judgmental.  In the case of correction, we are told we are being judgmental if we declare or stand on any part of God’s word that is not the light fluffy part of love.  Are parts of God’s word judgmental, hateful or evil? Not at all! All of God’s word is good news. His commandments, conditions and promises are all good because they all work together.  We cannot have one without the other. We deceive people if we only preach the promises without God’s conditions.  People are deceived into believing that we can believe in Jesus as our Savior and not the Lord of our lives.  God is the creator of all things and teaches us, in His word, the difference between right and wrong.  We do not have to judge or define what is right or wrong, God has already done that.  We just need to be willing to stand and declare what God has already taught us in His word.

I believe that the judgmentalism that God is against is a spirit of prideful condemnation that only looks to condemn, hate and elevate ourselves without seeking to restore and give hope, as in the woman caught in adultery.  The teachers of the law and the Pharisees condemned her, but Jesus corrected and gave her hope of restoration.

There is an evil teaching from Satan himself.  Satan wants nothing more than to silence believers and keep us focusing on ourselves and not be seeking to reach the lost.  He wants us to be self centered and focus on ourselves, get in our closets and be silent while others come out of the closet and not have anyone love them enough to tell them that they are headed on a destructive path.  Since we have our own sin in our lives, who are we to say anything to anyone else?  If the prophets, John the Baptist, the apostles and Paul waited until they perfected themselves before they spoke to anyone, they probably would have lived longer lives and would not have changed the world with the message they were commissioned to preach.

God has given us Pastors to teach and shepherd, but it is so important that, we as Christians, are in God’s word for ourselves and not just relying on someone else’s interpretation of scripture for our beliefs.  What does God say?  He wants to tell us and that is why He has given us His word.  We need to be like the Bereans;

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.  Acts 17:11.

We  cannot just take a Pastor or teachers word for something without our own personal study and prayer time with God Himself.  Especially if a teacher tells us not to question or critique him and to just believe what he teaches us.

And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.  It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.  2 Corinthians 11:14-15.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.  John 8:44.

God warns us of a time that there will be great deception in the world;

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  2 Timothy 4:3

Brothers and sisters in Christ, in times of persecution, it is not the time for fear or to shrink back and be bullied or deceived into silence.  There is a confused, hurting and deceived world out there that is in desperate need of the good news of God’s word.  Lets love them enough to take chances, be willing to be rejected, and possibly even persecuted to see them come to the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.  At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.  Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.  And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.  Matthew 24:9-14

Silence on “controversial” issues have gotten us to where we are today. People who call themselves by the Name of the Lord living in confusion about what is right and wrong and not knowing for themselves what God’s word teaches us.  We have come to a place where churches accept homosexuality as viable lifestyle, accept practicing homosexuals as pastors and backing homosexual marriage as the law in America.  This is where silence and tolerance gets us.  Not to mention the possibility of God removing His hand of protection over our nation and His judgment on the people of this land.

Do we preach this message in a mean, hateful spirit?  This is another “by no means!”  We are to love them as ourselves and if we were headed for destruction and hell and didn’t know it, would we want someone to get our attention and tell us?  Would we consider them loving toward us if they didn’t?

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.  From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.  Ephesians 4:14-16.

CAF ARTICLE: Are We Ready For Jesus?

I am really feeling like the hour is getting late when it comes to the possibility of Jesus returning.  Of course, none of us knows the hour or the day.  It could be 5 minutes from now, 5 days, 5 weeks, months or years.  The same is true for how much time we may have left in this life we are living and our ability to accept Jesus as Lord.

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  Matthew 24:36

“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.  People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.  But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

“It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.  On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.  Remember Lot’s wife!  Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.  I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.  Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.”   Luke 17:26-35.

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.  But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.  So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.  Matthew 24:42-44.

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.  For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.  You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.  Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of birth pains.  Matthew 24:4-8.

According to the biblical record, nations are blessed, and under the protection of God, when we are living for Him, and are committed to His ways.  The way I see it,  the coming of Jesus is getting very near, or, the United States of America is going to cease to exist as we know it, and according to the way it was founded.  We have turned, and are being led, by the leadership, in the opposite direction of God and His ways.

We are being taken thousands of years back in time, to turning this country into Sodom and Gomorrah.  We are being led into thinking that this is some new enlightened way of thinking that we just have not been able to see until now.  God warns us of a society turning to this kind of lifestyle, or even approving of this kind of lifestyle in both the old and new testament’s of the Bible.  The account of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Old Testament and in the book of Romans in the New Testament are prime examples.

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.  For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.  They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.  In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.  They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;  they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.  Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.   Romans 1:18-32.

Continuing in this direction, as it seems we are at an alarmingly increasing rate, we are walking right out from under  God’s protection.  This is not going to be a good thing for our country as we have been warned about in scripture in the example of Sodom and Gomorrah.

After 9/11, our country went to war against Islamists that want to wipe out everyone that doesn’t believe, look like or do exactly as they want you to do.  At the top of the list is Israel and the United States.

We have turned away from fighting them, by pulling out of wars against them, to helping them and arming them and just trying to ignore them and the unbelievably  evil things that they are doing around the world.  This is beginning to be more and more exposed by people, including top military officers, that are warning us about the vulnerability and danger that the United States is being exposed to.

I am not saying that I am a prophet, or that this is what God has told me is going to happen, but this is what I am sensing in light of scripture, from what is going on around us and what we see in the news headlines.  America, as a whole, is being led away from God and His ways.  We are being led toward being sympathetic toward the religion of Islam even though they are threatening us and want to destroy us at any cost.

I feel that we are walking out from under God’s protection, and as we see over and over again in scripture, God allows us to go on our own, which leads to the destruction of a nation.  We, as humans, then realize that all of our efforts and intelligence are not in control of this world, and  we need God and need to turn back to His ways.

I think we are going to be outside the protection of God, by turning away from Him and His ways in accepting a lifestyle that is clearly not the way He created things to be, according to scripture.  Then, I believe we are being led to being overtaken by Islamic rule from within, by leaders in our own country.  This will lead to major persecution of those that truly follow Jesus Christ as we see going on all over the world where there is Islamic rule.

Matthew 24:9-14.

“All this I have told you so that you will not fall away.  They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.  They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.  I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, but now I am going to him who sent me.  John 16:1-5.

Today, even in the church, there is a major deception going on which God has warned us about in scripture.

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:  Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  2 Timothy 4:1-4.

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.  Mark 13:22.

As a country, to avoid a disaster like this in our country, we need to come together and be unified under the Lordship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.”  Luke 11:17.

Whether we are close to the end of our country as we know it, or Jesus is ready to return, the answer is the same.  We need to be right with God.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  Romans 3:23.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in

Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9.

We need to truly believe in Jesus as the Lord of all areas of our lives, and follow Him.  Not just be a “fan” of Jesus, but truly desire to follow Him.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.  Matthew 7:13-14.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.  What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?  For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.  Matthew 16:24-27.

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.  Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.  John 14:23-24.

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.  Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.  But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them.  This is how we know we are in him:  Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.  1 John 2:3-6.

Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.  People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.  For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.  Luke 17:22-24.

All praise to our Lord and God!

CAF ARTICLE: Alone At Your Jordan

Happy Wednesday to you. Hope your journey with the Lord is healthy today. I am still working my way through Oswald Chambers’ book, “My Utmost For His Highest”. I have the link below to the full devotion for August 11th, but I want to focus on this part of the devotion.

Alone at your Jordan. 2 Kings 2:14. Jordan is the type of separation where there is no fellowship with anyone else, and where no one can take the responsibility for you. You have to put to the test now what you learned when you were with your Elijah. You have been to Jordan over and over again with Elijah, but now you are up against it alone. It is no use saying you cannot go; this experience has come, and you must go. If you want to know whether God is the God you have faith to believe Him to be, then go through your Jordan alone.

This section really resonated with me as I reflected a season I went through last fall. Being a parent of adult children can be really tough sometimes. Some seasons are tougher than others. For me there came a time when God lead me to institute some tough love and it was tough for everyone involved, but in retrospect it has turned out to be the best choice for our family. Go figure, God leads you the best way.

This became a really lonely season in my life because there were a lot of people who disagreed with my steps. I had to come to terms with whether I was going to trust God in what steps He lead me in or was I going to be overcome by what my peers thought I should do. God gave me direction, knowledge and scripture. I should have had no doubt, but there were times I questioned myself. There was one night in particular that I cried out to God and he was silent. His spirit was there, I was not alone, but He had already directed me in the way I should go. It came down to was I going to please men or please God. I chose God. Some of those relationships are still strained, but I know that I made the right choice.

It was a really rough season in my life. I think it was the first time I had to really stand firm and slay the giant myself with the strength, wisdom and knowledge God had provided. It had to be my decision to stay and slay and not run away. It was a really lonely time in my life, but I learned a great deal through it and although some wrinkles of the situation are still being ironed out things have worked out for the greater good. God is good! All the time, God is good. Jen

CAF ARTICLE: Just What I Needed

I love the way God places people, devotions, sermons and songs on the radio in my path to teach, comfort and remind me of who he is and what he wants of me. I can get caught up in the to-do list and worry of why certain circumstances aren’t panning out the way I thought and finding myself in a now what mode. Owned the book, My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers for awhile and just started reading it recently. The July 28th devotion was just what I needed to remind me to keep my focus on God as he hovers over the chaos, or what I perceive to be chaos, of my life and trust he will handle it in his timing and in his perfect way. God bless you this week and may you be overcome by his presence so you can overcome. Jen

CAF ARTICLE: America, Imagine the World Without a Her, by Dinesh D’Souza

Really interesting turn of events recently. Last week our son had an opportunity to go to a local museum with a friend. Score! Unexpected date time for Mom and Dad. We mulled over what to do with our free time and was considering going to see the movie “America, Imagine the World Without Her”. We watched the movie trailer. Looked into who the producer Dinesh D’Souza was and evaluating if this was a movie that we should financially support. Well, we used much of our time researching and discussing options that we didn’t have the time to see this movie that day. But now we were aware of the movie.

This week our vacuum stopped working properly and we’ve been discussing purchasing a Dyson based on reviews from family and store customers. We decided on a model and learned that Costco not only sells it cheaper than other stores, but there is also a $100.00 coupon on that model. Being cautious, we have still been taking some time to make sure we should invest that much money in a vacuum. Then today news hits the fan that Costco has pulled Dinesh D’Souza’s book, America, Imagine the World Without Her, off of it’s shelves for political reasons. We have now chosen to NOT purchase the vacuum at Costco because we want to make sure our choices are honoring God and not just what will suit us financially. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Ephesians 5:11.

As Christians, we need to be very careful and do our best to not compromise our faith in any way. To me this chain of events is no coincidence, but an opportunity. An opportunity of a test and trust with God. Will we let the $100.00 savings motivate our steps or will we stand in faith and trust God in how he directs us? We are in a time in our life where we need to be saving money everywhere that we can, but we can’t let money override what God would want us to do. We are choosing God and trusting he will work out our finances even if we spend $100.00 more on the purchase. No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Matthew 6:24. The way God orchestrates moments in our lives is so incredibly amazing to me. Regardless of how you may feel about this issue, my hope and prayer is that we as Christians will allow God to influence the choices in our life so that we may experience the abundant life that God has for us. God bless you! Jen
